Lovely teeth with remote monitoring and fewer visits!
Wednesday 15th November saw our second face-to-face Alpha Omega meeting at the BDA in Central London with Dr Claire Nightingale presenting a comparison of Fixed brace orthodontics and Invisalign. As a non-orthodontist it was interesting to get a better understanding of the differences in the mechanics of the 2 techniques and actually to see that for intrusion Invisalign seems to be more effective.
We were shown how Invisalign has evolved with the use of attachments and buttons to improve efficacy and all the key points were highlighted with beautiful clinical cases followed up over time.
It was interesting to see someone who has spent most of her career in practice and hospital using fixed appliances start to adapt their practice to embrace a new technology and treatment concept. She showed us how her aligner cases have steadily increased as clinical familiarity and patient demand have evolved.
Dr Nightingale showed us how with remote monitoring systems the patients need to attend the clinic in person far fewer times with some orthodontic cases only coming in 3 times to completion.
This has a real impact on the patient and the clinicians and shows us how remote dentistry is already in place and can work. Overall the meeting was a great success with an interesting presentation sparking great questions and discussions all in the familiar and friendly environment of Alpha Omega.
