Young Alpha Omega

A group for young dentists wishing to discuss clinical questions and seek career advice.

In this area of the website you will find (links to) articles relevant to all, from dental students to the newly qualified just starting on their career path:

  • As a student are you feeling overwhelmed with the change from A level studies to university? Feeling average now compared with the high levels of academic achievement at school?

  • The influence of society, friends and the dental community as a whole can make it very difficult to work out what is important to us personally and to establish what we really want to get out of our careers.

  • As a young practising dentist there are myriad issues which arise: am I getting the support and mentoring I need? Who do I go to when I simply want some clinical advice? How do I manage difficult patients and their expectations?

  • What is a fair deal for me as an associate?

  • What do I need to consider if I am thinking about owning my own practice?

  • How should I develop my clinical skills and training

In this section, there will be articles which hopefully will cover all these questions and more.  Currently we have an article from one of our student members who undertook an elective abroad with the support of Alpha Omega.

Later on there will be articles about study clubs, externships, an article from a dentist who has just completed her first year as an associate in a busy practice and another one from a member who has just bought her first practice.

We will be holding several informal get-togethers  after the very successful meeting ( with donuts!)  that took place in December last year in North London ,where you can meet up with friends old and new and take the opportunity to talk to the leaders of our profession.

You can also be part of a WhatsApp group where there is advice available from experienced mentors.

Join AO now either as a student (£15) or as a full member (£295) or as retired/newly qualified  (£120)
