Spring Roundup at Alpha Omega

Alpha Omega

It has been a wonderful year for members in London as we all enjoyed a combination of meetings at The Central in London as well as online. There were subjects ranging from rescuing a terminal dentition, addressing the mental health and well-being of the dental team to surgical treatment of complex periodontal defects as well as many other excellent presentations.

Here is a link for a summary of one of the presentations.

Going forward, I am pleased to let you know that our face-to-face meetings will be taking place at our previous home, the British Dental Association in Wimpole Street, Central London.

Here is a quick run-down of the planned lectures. More details will be posted later this year:

  • Dr Basil Mizrahi, Specialist in Prosthodontics and restorative dentistry and famed teacher will open the year.

  • Orthodontic consultant Dr Claire Nightingale speaking on “Invisalign v Fixed?”

  • Dr Rupert Austin: on Digital dentistry and tooth wear.

  • Dr Jimmy Makdissi on radiology.

  • Stephen Henderson on medico-legal issues and the GDC.

  • On Zoom in December and January, we will welcome Professor Howard Gluckman who will present on an implant-related topic.

  • Professor Rachel Sarig on dental anthropology, tooth wear, and caries.

I will be sending more details of the venue in the next few months as well as an informative newsletter on the history of the BDA.

There is a Young Alpha Omega page on the website now and we are offering Study groups for the Young AO group. (This group is for dental students and newly qualified up to 5 years)

(Membership for students and DFT trainees is free, And we offer a discounted fee for first-year dentists of £100pa).

The last study group was held in Harley Street and the subject was ‘Demystifying Endodontics’ with Dr David Selouk Specialist endodontist at the Academy of Advanced Endodontics.

Here’s a link to an article about it.

The next study group for Young Alpha Omega will be held on June 18th at the Preiskel Dental Centre in Central London in the afternoon with Dr Alon Prieskel, Consultant Prosthodontist and our current Chairman. The subject will be: ‘The Fundamentals of Treatment Planning and Managing Complex Cases’ You are invited to bring details of any cases that you would like to discuss. The group can be used if you need any advice and information on clinical or practical issues in practice.

There is a limit on the numbers for this event, so if you would like to attend please email me at membership@alphaomegauk.co.uk with your name and mobile number and we can add you to the Young AO WhatsApp group and you can receive more details for this and other events in the future.

There will be further newsletters over the next few months with information about the coming season of lectures and, excitingly, there will be an excellent hands-on day in the autumn run by Alpha Omega London with the collaboration of Dentsply.

More details to come so watch this space!
