Young Alpha Omega Newsletter

Latest Updates

December 2022, cold and dark and in the depths of winter we were ready to celebrate all our holidays .

Time for an excellent get together in North West London with some decent snacks and a large number of doughnuts in the company of dentists young and old (or should I say experienced!) and dentists to be.

It certainly made a change to be able to chat freely and without any work pressure about our professional experiences and for the members of the Alpha Omega Committee to be able to impart any advice needed and to get to know the newer members of our wonderful organisation.

By the same token, at last we were able to put faces to names and to make some meaningful connections going forward.

It was a pleasure to be able to meet up with some of the students from KCL and elsewhere and to talk through their concerns and experiences. The subject matter ran from teaching issues at the dental school to thinking about possible pathways after qualification including practice purchase!

There is so much that is unknown these days as far as the career path in dentistry is concerned especially with the current set up of NHS dentistry, the proliferation of corporate dental entities and expectations and responsibilities in purely private practice.

Our profession is one in which we are constantly reminded that just because we have a degree and license to practice, the knowledge and experience needed to become good practitioner is related to excellent mentoring as well as copious practical experience and dare I say it ,learning from our own and others mistakes.

Alpha Omega offers a strong mentoring and educational foundation. We have, amongst our members, specialists and teachers in all fields.

For instance, in early March there will be a study group with Dr David Selouk Endodontic specialist at his Harley Street practice after a series of endo questions from the Whatsapp young AO group.

There will be another Garden Party in the spring and details will be available later on…. Watch this space!
