Report by Dr Aron Marcus, Alpha Omega
On what was probably the coldest day of the year in Jerusalem so far the warmest welcome was given to me, my wife Stephanie and Stephane Abitbol, Regent AO France by the department of Dental Medicine at the Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem.
No excursion to Hadassah is complete without first visiting the stunning Chagall Windows in the hospital synagogue and hearing a moving account of their conception and installation in the early days of the hospital.
Suitably inspired we moved onto the Dental Hospital itself where plans are in place to create a new clinic on the ground floor for patients with compromised mobility .
Currently on display are two remarkable and well preserved antique dental units in stark contrast to high tech equipment we were about to see.
Alpha Omega was pivotal in the establishment of the Dental School and the walls are adorned with plaques and photographs commemorating the continuous support that has been given over the years.
The warm and friendly Dr Asher Roos, vice dean of the department of orthodontics was our guide for the morning.
Included in our visit was the new digital laboratory which was set up with support from AO London.
The stunning new state of the art postgraduate orthodontic clinic is a sight to behold and home to both international students and students and staff from the Arab and Jewish communities. This theme is reflected throughout all the departments whether it be students, staff and patients.
We were treated to a delicious lunch with Professor Stella Chausa , chair of the department of orthodontics and Dr Itzhik Abramovitz from the department of Endodontics.
Next time you are in Israel take the opportunity to the visit the faculty. It is really worth seeing and clearly demonstrates what incredible things can be done with the support of Alpha Omega.
